Kidney/Adrenal Gland location
The normal kidney location is towards the back of the abdominal cavity (towards the spine), just above the waist. If you put your hands on your hips with your thumbs pointing towards your spine, your kidneys are located approximately where your thumbs are. One kidney is normally located just below the liver, on the right side of the abdomen, and the other is just below the spleen on the left side.
Restorative self-massage for the Kidneys and Adrenal Glands
1) Start in either a sitting or standing position. Make fists with your hands and place them on your low back just above your pelvis and below your ribs. Using circular motions, gently massage with the fists over the lower back, warming the area. (If you cannot reach your lower back, gently rub the abdomen about 1–2 inches below the belly button. Send your intention—not your pressure—deep into the back of the abdomen where the kidneys are located.) Since the kidneys have to do with the Water Element, as you massage allow yourself to visualize a soothing ocean flowing over your kidneys. Imagine the water washing away any fears, tension, pain, or discomfort found in the mind and body.
2) Relax arms to your sides. Gently twist your body to the left side. (Please do not move into an intense stretch, this is a gentle rotation. The goal is to feel ease in the body.) Exhale as you twist. Inhale as you return to center. Gently twist your body to the right side. Exhale as you twist. Inhale as you return to center. Do this four more times on each side. These gentle twists provide self-massage for the kidneys.
3) Allow your face to soften and the corners of your mouth to turn up. Place one palm over the other palm facing inward about an inch or two below your belly button. Visualize renewed energy in the lower abdomen, flooding the kidneys with light and joy.
